Exterior Wall Insulation and Finish System
Since its introduction to the United States in 1969. Outsulation has become the standard of the EIFS industry by fulfiling requirements for design freedom, energy, efficiency, weatherability, durability, beauty and cost effectiveness. The system has proven itself time and time again, over a braod range of applications and in climates froma rctic to tropical. though dryvit has made many product improvements during that period, Outsulation's basic design has remained virtually unchanged and today continues to provide the rock solid foundation for Dryvit's family of performance-based systems. In fact there is more EFIS on non-residential buildings tha any other exterior cladding today. Because Dryvit manufactures more EFIS than anyone else and Outsulation is the most popular non-rsidential system Dryvit offers, it can be argued that there is more Outsulation cladding non-residential buildings than any other exterior cladding product in the country.
A System with many benefits
Design Freedom: The design options of the Outsulation System are virtually endless. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) can be cut or grooved to various shapes and surface patterns, is very light in weight andinstalls easily over a variety of substrates.
Energy Efficiency: EPS acts as an insulating blanket on the outside of the building, where it is most effective, adding an additional R4 per inch to your wall assembly. Heating or cooling costs are demonstarbly lower using Outsulation in lieu of other exterior materials.
Weatherability: Outsulation's system components provide a rain screen of protection against wind and water - in all weather conditions. Dryvit's projects are formulated to provide the utmost in weather protection.
Durability: An integral part of the system, fiber glass reinforcing mesh is available in a number of different strengths, meeting design requirements for impact resistance in virtually any location. The total wall system provides unsurpassed long-term durability.
Beauty: Dryvit finishes are available in a wide array of textures. Colors? Your imagination is the limit. Even the look of natural stone, granite and brick is possible! All Dryvit finishes use Dirt Pickup Resistant (DPR) chemistry, ensuring the highest standard of weather, chemical and fade resistance.
Cost effective: Outsulation is easily adapted to complex project details. Installation is rapid, and routine maintenance is minimal. Outsulation is by far the most cost effective exterior solution for almost any buildinv - which is why it is the most widely used exterior cladding in commercial construction today.

Efficient & Economical
Outsulation Plus expands upon the proven weatherability and insulating qualities of Outsulation by adding a second line of defense against air, moisture and weather. This is accomplished with a coating of Backstop NT and by applying Dryvit’s AquaFlash System or flashing tape at all sills of openings. Outsulation Plus goes one step further through the use of adhesive channels to provide moisture drainage. These channels work in tandem with either of two system termination options, resulting in an efficient and economical system that is easy to install.
Why Backstop NT?
The adhesive channels present in Outsulation Plus will evacuate incidental moisture that may find its way behind the insulation board. Backstop NT prevents this moisture from coming into contact with the substrate as it drains. Developed specifically for this purpose, it is a specially formulated, flexible, polymer-based, noncementitious coating that provides a watertight membrane. Always used in conjunction with a waterproof flashing material such as Dryvit AquaFlash System or flashing tape, Backstop NT is an essential element of the Outsulation Plus System. The Residential MD System from Dryvit has been engineered specifically for residential and light commercial construction. It incorporates a drainage plane that is installed between the secondary weather barrier and the insulation board. It is this drainage plane that allows for incidental water to weep to the exterior. The Residential MD System is mechanically fastened over a code-approved weather barrier to a plywood or OSB substrate with Dryvit approved fasteners, which provide maximum wind load performance.
The Residential MD System is designed to be used in all areas of the country and in all types of climates. The system, which is backed by a drainage performance warranty, offers all of the insulation benefits and architectural appeal that has made Dryvit the number one choice in North America.

Moisture Drainage Technology
Outsulation MD offers the most comprehensive, easy-to-install drainage system available for commercial use today. It provides three lines of defense against water intrusion. The first is Dryvit’s time-tested combination of reinforced base coat and finish. The second is our specially-designed, grooved EPS with drainage track and vent assembly. The third is Backstop NT, an air and water-resistive barrier. A waterproof flashing material such as Dryvit AquaFlash System or flashing tape is also used to protect sills of wall openings (such as windows). A compatible sealant must be utilized at all system terminations.
Why Backstop NT?
The drainage channels present in Outsulation MD will evacuate "incidental" water that, for a variety of reasons, may find its way behind the EPS insulation. Backstop NT prevents this moisture from coming into contact with the substrate, as it drains. Classified in Canada as a Type III air barrier, it is a specially formulated, flexible, polymer-based, noncementitious coating that has proven itself to be a watertight membrane. Backstop NT is an essential element of the Outsulation MD System. Full details regarding the performance of Backstop NT are available upon request from Dryvit.
